　　分析：在这句话中谓语还是is, 主语是the whole question, 表语是this. 那这个this 是一个代词，所以代词可以做表语。整句话的意思是：所有的问题就是这个：我们从本质上改变了吗?

　　3. When the vote was finally taken, it was 3:45 in the morning.

　　分析：这句话中表语也很明显，逗号前面是一个when 引导的时间状语从句，里面的taken 是被动。主干部分是it was 3:45 in the morning, 在这个主干中it 为主语,was为谓语，表语是3:45即表语是数词，说明数词可做表语。

　　4. The profession is taking steps to require young doctors to train in hospices.

　　分析：整句话的意思是：这个行业正在采取措施要求年轻的医生去济贫院训练。主语是the profession, 谓语是is， 表语是 taking steps to require young doctors to train in hospices，表语的形式是V-ing，所以v-ing可以做表语。

　　5. The best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of tip service.

　　分析：在这句话中主语显而易见是the best strategy,谓语是is,表语则是to use the agent as a kind of tip service，to do 不定式做了表语。

　　6. The fact is that most Americans are friendly,courteous, and helpful to them.

　　分析：主语是the fact, 谓语是is, 表语则是 that most Americans are friendly,courteous, and helpful to them。 这个表语跟我们前面几个例子不一样的是表语是一个句子了，即我们的表语从句。

　　7. The official statistics are discouraging.

　　分析：这句话很简单，主语是the official statistics, 谓语是are, 表语是discouraging, 它是一个形容词，即形容词可以做表语。

　　8. The government should stay out of the way.

　　分析：在这句话中主语很简单找是the government ; 谓语是should stay , 不是前面的be 动词了， 这会是我们下节课要学的另外一种特殊的Be动词，这里的stay 是系动词，而表语是out of the way . 则介词短语可以做表语。
