诸子百家:Various Schools of Thought and Their Exponents

  儒家:the Confucian school

  首先我们来看一下孔子。

  孔子:Confucius

Conducius was born in Qufu in the feudal state of Lu in what is now Shandong Province.

Confucius was a wise man. His teachings focused on the proper relationships between people, including respect for one’s parents and ancestors, and the creation of a harmonious society based on virtue.

Tha faith in the possibility of ordinary human beings to become awe-inspiring sages is deeply rooted in the Confucian heritage, and the insistence that human beings are reachable, improvable, and perfectible through personal and commual endeavor is typically Confucian.

Confucius thought that kings were able to govern primarily through the power of setting a good ethical example, rather than through military force or criminal penalties.

According to Confucius, a good person hasren, ren, translated as “humaneness” or “benevolence,” which is the summation of all other virtues.

Confucius thought that there was great joy to family life, participating in communal activities, enjoying music, and spending time with one’s friends. During China’s Cultural Revolution, Confucius was condemned as an element of China’s “fedual” past. However, economic and social changes in China since the 1980s have led to renewed interest in and respect for Confucius and Confucianism.

From a modern perspective, Confucius worldview has certain limitations. He was ignorant of cultural diversity ; he accepted the sexism of his society; he showed no interest in natural science or technology.

However, Confucius will no doubt continue to inspire people across the world with his vision of social harmony, his insight into human virtue, and his techniques for cultivating ethical individual.
