mean后边有两个that引导的宾语从句--1、 ambition is at an end；2、 people no longer feel its stirrings and promptings。but后来个转折，注意省略（it is） no longer openly honored，注意与下句话的逻辑关系，可以理解为因果关系。参考翻译：这并不意味着雄心壮志的终结，也不意味着人们不再感受到它的激励与奋进作用，而是意味着，因为雄心壮志不再公开地受到尊崇，因此它也很少地公开承认。
