英语单词几乎是天天必背的，但一定要有计划性，有的人常常用整段的时间如整个上午来背单词，有时候又一天都不翻一下单词书，这是不可取的。2016考研的同学最好制定一个计划，多少天背完一遍，每天背多少个，每天什么时候背，规划地清清楚楚，效率也会高很多。

　　★ extinguish

　　v.熄灭，消灭；使不存在

　　【例】The fire fighters extinguished the fire in the office building.消防员们扑灭了办公楼里的大火。

　　【构词】ex-（出）+ting（刺，引申为火焰）+uish→把火焰拿出来→熄灭

　　【派生】extinguishable a.可熄灭的  extinguished a.熄灭的  extinguishment n.熄灭

　　【真题】If good people do nothing, there is a real possibility that an uniformed citizenry will extinguish the precious embers of medical progress.如果好人再不行动，有可能真会使无知的人们扑灭医学进步中的珍贵火种。

　　a.华丽的；灿烂的；愉快的，极好的

　　【例】Charlie plays a simple but absolutely gorgeous melody.查理放了一首简单却非常欢快的曲子。

　　【构词】gorge（峡谷）+-ous→峡谷是美丽的→绚丽的，华丽的

　　【同义替换】brilliant, wonderful, magnificent, superb

　　【派生】gorgeously ad.华丽地  gorgeousness n.华丽

　　★ imitate

　　v.模仿，仿效；仿造，伪造

　　【例】Decide what you want to do and do not just imitate others.想做什么自己决定，不要一味学别人。

　　【同义替换】mimic, mock, simulate; forge, counterfeit, fabricate

　　【派生】imitation n.模仿；仿造  imitative a.模仿的；仿造的

　　n.发生，出现；事件，事故，发生的事情

　　【例1】The study compares the occurrence of heart disease in various countries.这个研究对比了在不同国家心脏病发生的情况。

　　【例2】I do not want to see the similar occurrence.我不希望这种事再次发生。

　　【同义替换】happening

　　【真题】Satellites have extended the power of communications to report events at the instant of occurrence.人造卫星拓展了通讯能力，可以对事件进行现场报道。
