　　①rather than和other than

　　这两个词组看起来长的很像，很容易混淆，但是它的含义确具有天壤之别。rather than是“而不是;宁可...也不愿”的含义。如：I would die rather than surrender.这句话是“我宁愿死也不投降”的含义;而other than则是“除了，不同于”的含义。There’s nobody here other than me.这个地方除了我之外，就没有人。其实，文都英语老师认为，能够记住词组之间的区别最好的方法还是把它放到句子中去记忆。

　　②would rather than和would rather to

　　这两个词组虽然只有一词只差，但是“差之毫厘，失之千里”啊。would rather than是“会，而不是”的含义，而would rather to则是“宁愿”的含义。比如：I would rather die than marry you. 这句话则译为：我宁愿死也不会嫁给你。I would rather die to marry you.这句话的含义则是指：我宁愿死也要嫁给你。两个句子意思完全不同。

　　③less A more B

　　许多小伙伴可能要说，less...more..这类词神马的最讨厌了，完全不知道赞成的应该是哪个，否定的应该是哪个。文都英语老师告诉大家一个小技巧，跟在less后面的就是否定的对象，那么跟在more后面的自然就是肯定的对象了。所以，less A more B就是否定的A，肯定的B，即“与其说A，不如说B”这个含义。如：Interest in historical methods has arisen less through external challenge to the validity of history as an intellectual discipline and more from internal quarrels among historians themselves,这句话就可以翻译为：对历史方法的兴趣，与其说是起源于对历史有效性的外部挑战，倒不如说是起源于历史学家们内部的争论。

　　④more than

　　more than这个词组本身是“多于，超出，比...多，不仅仅，不止”这个含义。例如：Altogether more than 70 percent of the surface of our planet is covered by water. 这句话可以翻译为：我们星球的表面有超过70%的部分都是被水所覆盖的。

　　而且，more than 放在名词之前，就是“不仅仅”这个含义了。例如：①Hibernation is more than sleep. 冬眠不仅仅是睡眠。②You’re more than one man fighting.你不只是一个人在战斗。

　　此外，more than 用于形容词或副词前，则是可以用来表示程度的。 例如：My parents are more than kind to me.则意为：父母对我非常好。She is more than careful in doing things. 她做事非常认真。In class , he listens more than attentively. 课堂上，她聚精会神的听着。

　　另外，more than用于句子前，还可用来表示否定。如：He earns more money than he can spend.他挣了好多钱都花不完。
