考研英语虽然没有像四六级那样有让大家抓狂的听力部分， 但是其难度确也让同学们伤不起。其实考研英语中比较难的部分是文章中的长难句，如果读不懂，做阅读只能靠蒙，做翻译只能靠编。因此对于理解重要的长难句，不能蒙混过关，还是要按最常规的方法，复习长难句可以达到举一反三、触类旁通的效果，而且长难句的理解对于语法、翻译、阅读都起到至关重要的作用。今天文都网校考研英语辅导老师就一个长难句给大家做个解析。

　　Islamic law is a phenomenon so different from all other forms of law--notwithstanding,of course,a considerable and inevitable number of coincidences with one or the other of them as far as subject matter and positive enactments are concerned--that its study is indispensable in order to appreciate adequately the full range of possible legal phenomena.

　　一、词汇

　　1)notwithstanding虽然、尽管。He despised William Pitt, notwithstanding the similar views they both held. 尽管他和威廉·皮特看法相似，却瞧不起他。2)Indispensable不可或缺的、必不可少的。Cars have become an indispensable part of our lives.汽车已成了我们生活中必不可少的一部分。

　　二、语法

　　首先找句子主干，注意到so+形容词(如此。。。以至于)，应该会意识到后边还有that从句，因此横杠之间是插入语成分。主干为Islamic law is a phenomenon so different from all other forms of law\ that its study is indispensable \in order to appreciate adequately the full range of possible legal phenomena.伊斯兰法是和其他形式的法律如此不同的现象\以至于对它的研究是必不可少的\对它的研究是为了能够充分理解所有可能的法律现象。这句话难在中间的插入语成分，notwithstanding,of course,\ a considerable and inevitable number of coincidences with one or the other of them \as far as subject matter and positive enactments are concerned出现notwithstanding，这词表明后边句子意思和整个句子意思不同，其中的指代关系one和 the other 是并列关系，of them(其他法律)，指的是其他法律中的一个或者其他。As far as 就。。。而言，句中意思是说就主题内容和实际实施角度来说。

　　三、翻译

　　把这句话的主干和插入语理清楚后，要调整语序，符合中文的表达习惯，因此参考译文如下：伊斯兰法是一个与其他法律形式如此不同的现象--当然尽管，伊斯兰法与其他某些法律存在着大量和必然的一致之处--以至于对它的研究必不可少以便能够充分理解其他所有可能的法律现象。
