　　如果还原为正常语序为：

　　1980 census statistics dramatize more the American search for spacious living nowhere than in the Far West.

　　人口统计的数据表明：在远西地区，美国人是最渴望获得宽敞生活的。

　　No more…than…(no在这里就是nowhere中的no, than后面加的非句子那就是表示最高级了)

　　今天的句子是一个科技类的句子，单词比较复杂，但是不需要记。重点是体会一下翻译的方法。不用太纠结，翻译本来就难，慢慢积累。

　　The increasing complexities of microsurgery, laser technology, arthroscopy and who knows what next demand understanding and competence in techniques that require educationally sound training for the future orthopedist.

　　【词汇突破】：

　　Microsurgery 显微外科;

　　laser technology 激光技术;

　　arthroscopy 关节窥镜

　　who knows what next 谁也不知道的未来的新技术：这是一个常见的表达，偏口语，不做正规的语法分析。

　　Orthopedist 整容医师

　　主干识别：The increasing complexities demand understanding and competence (in techniques )

　　其他成分：that require educationally sound training for the future orthopedist. 定语从句

　　翻译点拨： 单独成句;

　　成分和词性的转换：为了符合中文的表达习惯，英文中的成分不一定会和中文的成分严格对应，比如定语可以转化为状语，定语也可以转化为宾语;

　　The increasing complexities of microsurgery, laser technology, arthroscopy and who knows what next

　　先翻of 后的内容：显微外科、激光技术、关节窥镜以及谁也不知道还要发明的什么新技术，

　　再翻译： The increasing complexities其日益增加的复杂性;

　　谓语的翻译： demand understanding and competence in techniques

　　这就要求(人们)理解和掌握这些技术;

　　that require educationally sound training for the future orthopedist.

　　在翻译这个定语从句为单独的一个句子：

　　这就要求未来的整形医师必须具备教育良好的训练

　　【参考译文】： 显微外科、激光技术、关节窥镜以及谁也不知道还要发明的什么新技术，其日益增加的复杂性要求(人们)理解和掌握这些技术，这就要求未来的整形医师必须具备教育良好的训练
