　　maximize:最大化

　　Coupled with：加上(combined with的同义替换)= and

　　主干识别 : 这是一个强调句结构，咱们来个拽点的解释：

　　It is A, coupled with B and C that determine D and E

　　正是ABC一起决定了D和E.

　　A= the demand of individual consumers

　　B= the desire of businessmen to maximize profits

　　C= the desire of individuals to maximize their incomes

　　D= what shall be produced

　　E= how resources are used to produce it

　　ABC是带有定语的三个名词;

　　D 和E是两个宾语从句：

　　what shall be produced

　　how resources are used to produce it

　　what 是一个关系代词：

　　1.链接两个句子

　　2.做代词充当后面句子中的主语或宾语

　　How是一个关系连词：链接两个句子(表语义：如何)

　　in the American economic system状语;

　　【参考译文】因此，在美国的经济体系中，个体消费者的需求与商人试图最大化其利润的欲望和个人想最大化其收入(效用)的欲望相结合，一起决定了什么应该被制造，以及资源如何被用来制造它们。(生产什么和生产方式)
